While there isn’t truly a “best solution,” some options are certain to meet your needs more effectively than others when selecting the appropriate ERP software.
In this post, we’ve compared Oracle NetSuite and Epicor head-to-head, two incredibly popular ERP programs with a long history and impressive reputation. The former is a cloud-based, all-inclusive solution, whereas the latter is a highly specialized platform that excels in particular markets and deployment styles.
By the time you read this article’s conclusion, you should be able to identify which ERP solution is best for your business.
A Quick Background of NetSuite
Evan Goldberg started NetSuite in 1998. The business began as a web-hosted accounting management program but swiftly developed into an entirely cloud-based ERP, financial planning, and omnichannel commerce solution.
Oracle purchased NetSuite in 2016 for a reported $9.3 billion. The business now provides services to over 16,000 clients in more than 200 nations and territories, and it is widely regarded as a pioneer in the field of cloud-based software.
A Brief History of Epicor
In the beginning, Triad Systems Corporation was the name of Epicor. After merging with DataWorks, it was first developed as a financial accounting tool for multi-user LAN-based environments, but it later focused on industrial processes and solutions. In 1999, the business changed its name to Epicor Software Solution.
The company, currently controlled by PE firm KKR, paid 3.3 billion for it in 2016. It has 20,000 customers across 150 countries and offers more than 15 distinct products for manufacturing, production, retail, and other uses.

Functional Comparison between NetSuite with Epicor:
Deployment Options
Epicor is the winner by default if you want to adopt an on-premise ERP solution. Epicor has only recently entered the cloud; therefore, it is still primarily an on-premises player. The software is currently working through some performance and delivery-related challenges in the cloud, most likely due to deploying numerous hosting partners and code sets.
On the other side, NetSuite uses a single code base and is entirely created in the cloud. The option to implement solutions on-premises is given up in exchange for easier integration and increased reliability.
Epicor should be off your radar if you’re seeking an ERP solution that runs on the cloud.
Various Other Differences: For production management, inventory management, and warehouse and fulfillment, Epicor performs well in supply chain management. Additionally, Epicor offers goods explicitly designed for sectors, including the production of automobiles and electronics. While NetSuite can imitate some of Epicor’s features, you could also need partner applications or other modules.
However, NetSuite performs substantially better than Epicor’s external supply chain management and manufacturing, particularly regarding Marketing Automation and CRM features. NetSuite may provide deep analytics and insights at any point in the client journey. Additionally, NetSuite provides a large ecosystem of partners that add to the platform’s features. Like NetSuite’s SDN partners, Epicor does not offer a partner ecosystem.
